Volume 70, Issue 26 Rota-Scribe: Bill Schenk

Marilyn Richard led the flag salute and Kim Barlow led the singing following Pat McKinley’s invocation.

Terry Prado called for guests and there was only one, but a very distinguished one at that.  Willa Vanderburg was introduced by her husband Jim.

Teri & Charlie brought alive the meaning of Heifer International!

Since today was Irish coffee day, served by the Collette’s staff and assisted by costumed Whiskey Girls, Kim Barlow, Terri Prado, and Marilyn Richards the announcements, Rotary and otherwise were quickly forgotten.

Zoot was a fill-in Finemaster and somehow managed to recognize Jim and Willa Vanderburg for their 54th anniversary and Bob Muschek for his and Doris’ 12th anniversary.  Prez J was recognized for his tireless promotion of Heifer International with a life-size Heifer trophy that was delivered with great effort and fanfare.

The real treat of the meeting were a sensation pair of Craft talks given by Judy Atwell and Bob Muschek.

Judy told us how she was born and raised in Fontana, California and how she met her husband –to-be, Alan, in San Diego, after she graduated from San Diego State College.  Judy feigned nervousness, but had the club in the palm of her hand as she continued to tell her life story and her life’s philosophies.

Next Bob Muschek talked about his early years growing up in Philadelphia and his 21 year career in the U.S. Army.  Bob was a helicopter pilot with two tours in Viet Nam and finished his career as a math instructor and soccer coach at West Point. Bob considers life as a voyage of discovery and continues his journey being fully retired for the first time in 2010.

If you want to expand your enjoyment of a Rotary meeting you should try and sit next to Bob or Judy the first chance you get.

Heifer International is a nonprofit charitable organization based in Little Rock, Arkansas, dedicated to relieving global hunger and poverty. It provides gifts of animals and plants, as well as education in agriculture, to financially-disadvantaged families around the world.
