Volume 69, Issue 2 Rota-Scribe: Minard Duncan

The hammer fell at 12:37 and Prez Jeff began the meeting by asking Terri Grassi to lead the Pledge, and Griff Duncan to lead the song.  Griff chose “My Country ‘tis of thee” followed by “Smile” ably accompanied by Don Ludwig on piano.

Mitch Hovey gave the invocation and asked the club to keep the Hutchison family in our prayers after the recent death of Jeff’s mom, Elaine.  Mitch also asked to keep the Clark family in our prayers after the death of long time Rotary member Bob Clark, Sr.

Prez Jeff also mentioned the Ed Little is in the hospital for tests.

Services for Bob Clark, Sr. will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at 11:00AM at First Presbyterian Church, at 838 N. Euclid, Fullerton.

Prez Jeff announced that the monthly Fullerton Rotary Club Board meeting will be held as always 2nd Tuesday of each month (next Tuesday) at the conference room of the Fullerton Community Bank) at  7:30 AM.

Rick Crane has a couple of Baseball events scheduled.  First is Fullerton Rotary night at the Fullerton Flyers on July 23rd.  Tickets are $25.  The Angels will celebrate Rotary Night on Aug 29.  These tickets are $30 dollars and this event is a Polio Plus fundraiser.

Ken Kaisch is soliciting ideas for Polio Plus donations.  There is a donation per member figure suggested to make our financial commitment to the program and Ken is looking for funding ideas.  If you would like to join Ken’s Polio Plus committee, call Ken.

Rick Price was recognized for his 52nd birthday.

Bob Hathaway was recognized for his 80th birthday!

Ray Ashcroft was recognized for his and Mary’s 51st Anniversary.

Mr. Baseball finished his presentation by reciting two jokes that even made Mike Oates eyes roll.

Guest Mary Ashcroft won the raffle and she selected husband Ray to help her name that tune.  They won the prize by knowing the song “Nothing Matters Anymore”, by the Fortunes, on King Records.  Mary admitted inside knowledge by telling the story of how husband Ray wrote and sang this song with Sonny Bono playing guitar on the recording and Cher sitting next to Mary while they both watched.

(Randy McFarland also admitted that he had a Fortunes poster as well).

The program today featured George Giokaris who presented a very comprehensive picture of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District. George seemed very proud of the Districts progress in the last ten years and explained how its successes were achieved and how it has approached the fiscal challenges.  George credits the Board of Trustees, the Administrators, the Faculty, the Students, the Parents, and the Community for helping the District stay pointed in the right direction and prevailing in these challenging times.

Everybody in attendance left with a since of admiration for the District as well as admiration for George!

If anyone would like to be a backup speaker for Rotary when a
scheduled speaker does not show up, please contact Deborah Sanchez.
Craft Talks are always good. Other ideas will be readily appreciated.
