Happy Valentine’s Day! Deacon Jay Milan started a great valentine luncheon off by providing pre-meeting piano music. Prez Pat McKinley had Bob Radde and his harem change the regular routine of our regular meetings and had one of the the Orange Empire Barber Shop quartets sing romantic songs for us. The quartet included our own Ray Ashcroft and Bill Peloquin. Sandy Hayes and Ray Ashcroft recited a history of Valentine’s Day for us. The Prez then led us in the Flag Salute and Deacon Jay Milan read a poem titled Romance vs. Love and gave the prayer. Leroy Fulton led us in “Smile.” Terri Grassi announced the following: Fullerton Chamber of Commerce is presenting Our Changing Economic Landscape moderated by Tom Meyer on March 6 at the Summit Hourse at 11:30 a.m. District 5320 is having the 2009 District Assembly on April 4 at Chapman University-Beckman Hall. The opening session begins at 8 a.m. No individual fee. All clubs are to send in their attendees by March 20. Our club is co-sponsoring the New Generations Club of Orange County-Fullerton. This new club needs our help in assistance with formation. They need a few more members under the age of 40 in order to get chartered. The dues is $50 per month and the meetings are at 6 p.m. on Thursdays. Contact Terri Grassi if you know of any under 40 prospective candidates. Cathy Gach introduced part of the cast from the Dinner Theater 2009 from her Fullerton High School New Generations Club. While we were eating this talented group entertained us with a couple of group songs, 4 solos and a duet. They were terrific and received a standing ovation!

Jim Young told the charming story of how he met his wife, Dottie. 68 years ago Jim met Dorothy Ray in Roswell, New Mexico. They met in a church but oddly enough she actually lived next door to where he moved to with his parents but he did not know she was his neighbor until after he met her at the church. On December 7, 1941, he was in the U.S Navy and had to go off to war but before he did he and Dottie had an engagement party at the Ambassador Hotel and only his crew on new LST landing craft was in attendance. The crew decided to name the craft the Dorothy Ray. He was 21 and Dottie was 19 when they got married and they have remained married for 65 years. Next on the unusual agenda was Jim Williams who introduced the famous Dr. Jim Blackburn. Bill and Robyn Mathy, Bill and Millie Heaton and Norma and Dr. Dick Jones were invited to sit in the front and participate in a game called “How Well Do You Know Your Mate?” As the husbands were escorted out of the room by Michael Willliams, the wives were asked the following questions: 1. What do you do when your husband leaves the house? Possible answers were A. Party time B. Clean time C. Nap time. 2 . What flower is your favorite? 3. What chores does your husband hate to do? After each wife answered, the husbands were called back and had to guess what the wife had selected for the answers. The responses were really funny. Bill Mathy had 2 correct answers. Bill Heaton and Dick had none correct. Jim Williams said the contest was too close to call so each received a nice gift. To close the meeting, Prez Chief Pat McKinley had the wives who attended stand and directed the husbands to kiss them. The Prez’s closing remark was “The age of a woman doesn’t mean a thing. The best music is played on an old fiddle!”
