Volume 67, Issue 4   Rota-Scribe: Randy Mc Farland

President Tom Meyer proudly rang the historic club Rotary bell thus commencing the meeting after which Wally Bartelt lead us in the pledge of allegiance to our country's flag.

Don Ludwig climbed aboard the piano bench and manned the keyboard while Howard Wood led the singing of "Take me out To the Ball Park" a thinly-veiled reference to our upcoming "Rotary Club Day" at Cal State Fullerton. I always enjoy observing the bemused smiles of our guests as we sing "Smile", but this week I neglected to, so I watched Howard spread his infectious enthusiasm around the room.

LeRoy Fulton prefaced his "Invocation" time with a confession that to date, his prayers and comments "came to him out of his head"...but he said that today he was going to read something that "came to him in an E-mail".. perhaps not as direct a connection from the man upstairs as we're used to, but still, a nicely written piece from State Assemblyman Martin Garrick.

Randy McFarland welcomed our visitors who consisted of Lee Myhre's wife, Jackie, Tom Meyer's guest Patrick Hartnett and Minard Duncan's guest Mitch Hovey.

Announcements:

LeRoy Fulton- "Celebrate Hope" University Dinner October 12 at Disney Resort Jim McKamy- "Day at the Del Mar August 12.

Rob Jahncke- encouraged fellowship luncheon leaders to get on the stick and call their list Rick Crane-  "Rotary Club Day" at the OC Flyers game Friday August 10th. Wear your "Rotary Rocks" T shirt!

Don Ludwig-  "High Finance 101.3"Same theme... pay those invoices early and often!

Bill Peloquin- "Harmony Under the Stars" at Pearson Park in Anaheim Sept. 1 @ 7:30PM

Walt Barnes-  Praised the club's generosity and announced he was now our district's Foundation Fundraiser (a promotion!)

He also presented Dan Fisk a pin for donating at least $5000 to the Foundation.

Recognitions-

Warren Wimer Razzed Bill Gorman, Joe Lins and Tom Meyer for their vacations, taken near or afar.
Warren recognized a handful of members who wore ties to today's meeting..either the "GQ"clique" of the club or perhaps, (more realistically) those who had to go back to work after the meeting! Despite her absence today, he mentioned that Julianne Haynes has the longevity honors for being the woman with the most years in the club. Warren fined Dick Daybell for having his name on a typographically erroneous Fellowship Luncheon flyer, but Dick  delegated, deftly deflecing the debt.   Other recognitions:
Bob Jahncke- 46 anniversary with Beth, Bob Hillhouse-Theresa's birthday, Leslie McCarthy- birthday. Finally, Warren fined Bill Schenk for incorrectly predicting that no one would notice his fictitious report in last week's Rotagram about a CD being made of our club's singing at each meeting. Joanne Brannock confirmed that she indeed saw the piece. Wally Swatkowski's opportunity drawing ticket came up, but that's as far as he got, to this reporter's knowledge.

Program-

Our own David Schoen of Eastside Christian School showed an very well done DVD about the school and noted that last year, 100% of the seniors graduated and that they all are also going to move up to college as well! Since sports is close to the heart of our president, David mentioned that of the 18 sports teams at the school,, 15 went to finals and 4 won championships.Because our club is interested in "Service", David shared that students have gone to Mexico, Africa, Kenya, East Africa and locally to help families.

Closing thought:   (or TFTD-thought for the day) Prez. Tom closed the meeting, referencing his dad, with "Tough times don't last, but tough people do."
