Volume 67, Issue 1 Rota-Scribe: Bill Schenk

Hail to the chief!

Howard compromised with Prez Tom and agreed to lead the club in “Hail to the Chief” just this one time instead of Tom’s wishes that we sing this every week.  No smiles were broader, however, this Tom Meyer’s as he sang our theme song, “Smile” to open his first meeting.

Mike Oates led the club in the flag salute and Carl Camp gave the Thought for the Day.

Bob Sattler introduced visiting Rotarian PDG Cliff Nelson from the Orange North Rotary Club. Guests included Sally Williams (wife if Jim), Patrick Hartnett (hosted by Prez Tom), Eileen Ouweleen (wife of newly inducted member Dan), and Jeanne Stockwell (wife of newly inducted member Dean).

Announcements:  Jim Williams has a few demotion nights “Rotary Rocks” T-shirts to sell for $15 each.  Jim is also taking orders for video recordings on DVD of the actual Rock Opera (including outtakes and interviews) for just $12 each.  Contact Jim this week or at the next meeting so that he can order the second run of this excellent production.

Senior Statesman and Rotary Secretary Jahncke thanked Jim and Sally Williams and their entire committee for putting on the best Demotion night ever.  PDG Bill Peloquin agreed saying that he has seen many, many Demotion nights and this was the best, by far!

J Richey announced the Fullerton Rotary Day at the Fullerton Flyers baseball is Saturday August 10.

Jim McKamy is taking sign-ups for Fullerton Rotary Day at Del Mar on Sunday Aug 12.  Tickets are $83 per person (includes round trip train ticket, entry to Del Mar).

Jay Kremer thanked all the members of his program committee for their diligence this past year and announced the next program committee meeting to be Thur. July 19th at 7:30 AM at Carrows.

Induction of new members:

Past District Governor Bill Peloquin said a few words to honor the worlds newest Rotarians as individuals who strive to live their lives in an exemplary fashion and then welcomed Dan Ouweleen, Dean Stockwell, and returning Rotarian Bill Hillhouse.

Their respective sponsors Bill Mathy, Jim Williams, and Dan Kiernan introduced each new Rotarian

Prez Tom read an original poem commemorating his attendance at the Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City.  His poetic finesse place well behind Jim Young, but slightly ahead of Nipsy Russell.  Future efforts will determine if his poetic license will be revoked.

Recognition Master Ken Kaisch fined/recognized: Bob Radde, Jim McKamy, Randy McFarland, Pat McKinley, Past President Joyce Cappelle, Kathy Allred, Keith Mills, Sandy Hayes, as well as everybody who attended Terri Grassi’s Demotion Night and everybody who did not attend Demotion Night.

Ken also recognized all three of the newly inducted Rotarians so they would feel left out.

Jay Kremer won the opportunity drawing but failed to draw the Joker from Prez Tom’s deck.  The $10 consolation prize was awarded by Paul Dudley.

The Program:

J Richey introduced Maureen Gebelein, the Director of the Fullerton Library who presented a program entitled Library, Literacy and Learning.

The Fullerton Literacy Program’s goals are to provide services and materials to meet the educational, informational, and literacy needs of the citizens of the community of Fullerton.

To close President Tom unveiled the new Fullerton Rotary Club banner wears the emblems of all the District awards garnered by our club in the past year.

Prez Tom ended his first meeting and looked forward to the next years with the quote: “Things in the past are never what they used to be”.
