As attendees finished their lunches, President
Terri Grassi,
opened the meeting by striking the Rotary bell with Cupid’s arrow…no
wait… that was the traditional Rotary drumstick she used (and it was
the most clear, authoritative and loud ring I’ve heard for quite a while)
Opening Traditions
Dean Heiser let us in the pledge and the stand-in song masters for the day
were Maryalyce Jeremiah and Greg Hickman. Maryalyce led the group through “Let Me
Call you Sweetheart” as members who brought their spouses held hands and
gazed deeply into each other’s eyes. (Pastor Greg stood by to perform any
“on the spot”

Jay Kremer announced another fun 7:30AM Programs committee meeting Thursday AM at Carrows.

Diane Masseth-Jones reminded us that our own Joe
Lins (good man sporting the
bow tie) is being honored at the YWCA’s Chocolate Fantasy on February 23.
Theresa Harvey reminded us that our own J
Richey (he’s also a good man!) is being
honored as the Chamber member of the year by the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce
this coming March 3rd at the Business of the Year Awards Gala.
Kevin Mathy took the opportunity
to announce that Congressman
Ed Royce will be
a the Feb. 23rd 8:00AM Breakfast meeting at the Chamber of Commerce.
Jim Williams Membership committee chair invited Rotarians to grab a few “You’re
invited to lunch” cards for us to pass along to perspective members. This and
other information will be available at the check in table. Everyone should have
a couple of these cards with them. All of us need to help bring in new members.
Prez Terri was proud to announce that the very successful concert allowed our
club to give away $4900 to each beneficiary group.
Recognitions
Phil Silverman (recognitions
chair) took the reins himself today and fined several
city officials for either having their pictures taken on a cruise or for not
being on the cruise. Named were Don Bankhead, Dick Jones, Jim Blake. Attendees
at the recent Cal State Fullerton Women’s basketball game whose pictures were
taken were fined. Rick Crane, Dick Daybell, Franki Berry, Jim Williams.
Buck Catlin performed a clandestine mission to procure pictures and information
on our own Lee Myhre and his father, reading a brief bio including that Lee received
an honorable discharge from the service in 1946 and subsequently was president
of the Brea Rotary Club and opened Downey Savings on Bastanchury Road.
Raffle
Bob Engemann won the opportunity to pick one of the two Jokers from Terri’s magic
deck of cards, but instead won a $10. consolation prize.
Program
Despite it being their busiest day of their
year, the “Highlight Quartet”
performed a program of 10 songs, punctuated by a few good jokes. The songs ranged
from “Hello Mary Lou” to “Rubber Ducky” and included some audience participation
with “Bring Back my Bonnie”.
Terri’s Thought of the Day: “What can you do to promote world
peace? Go home and love your family.” Meeting Adjourned!
