Prez Terri kicked off the first meeting of the second half of her tenure by asking that great American Walt Barnes to lead our club in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Howard Wood led the club in one of our favorite songs (Sing out a song of Rotary), followed by our absolute favorite, “Smile”.  Musical accompaniment was provided as always by club treasurer Don Ludwig.

Mark Giess provided inspirational New Years Resolutions before offering our invocation.

Art Levine introduced Visiting Rotarian Dr. Harris Done from Anaheim Rotary.  (Dr. Done is also the chief Dentist at the two Fullerton Rotary sponsored dental clinics each year).  Dr. Done also admitted being a former student of Dr. Pat Tormey at USC.

Rotarians with guests included Gloria Radde (better half of Bob), Julia Kaisch (brave partner of Ken), Julie Max esteemed colleague of Maryalyce Jeremiah and Duffy Clark, Assistant Superintendent of Schools and colleague of George Giokaris.

Honorary member Roy Harvill made his annual visit today as well.

Prez Terri congratulated George Giokaris and Pat Frank on completing their Newest Nine requirements.  George is wondering if he hasn’t set a record for length of time on the Newest Nine list. (Perseverance is its own reward George!)

Prez Terri also thanked Mark McGee and John Phelps for their hard work on producing the Senior Christmas Party this year.

Prez Terri also announced that Harry Brown is in the hospital.  Terri also expressed sympathy and condolecenses to Bob Engemann’s for the recent death of his wife Joann.

Tom Meyer announced the availability of Raffle Tickets for the Concert.

Walt Barnes (remember him?) reminded everyone that if we all bought one of the Rotary Foundation raffle tickets we will escalate our club to an even higher level of Foundation participation.

Finemaster Jeff Hutchison fined Buck Catlin (Navy), Mike Oates (Texas) and Vern Andrews (Arkansas) for Bowl victories.  He then fine the rest of the club (with the exception of Art Levine, Winston Creel, and Frank Kawase) for the USC Rose Bowl victory (Tom Meyer, Dr. Done and Gloria Radde actually attended the game.  Due to her Cardinal & Gold blood, Gloria had the better seat!)

Finemaster Jeff also fined Bill Mathy and John Braun for their Birthdays.  Dan Kiernan was fined for Ann’s birthday. Bill Heaton was fined for not knowing that this month marks his 16th anniversary as a Rotarian.

Dick Daybill was fined for his appointment to the City of Fullerton Underground Utilities Committee.  Bob Savage asked Dick to make a full report on the status of the lake that supposedly exists in the lowest basement level of the Plummer Auditorium.

Due to Bill Mathy’s advancing age he was unable to produce his winning raffle ticket before Prez Terri pulled another winner.  Keith Mills jumped to the podium to try and pull the Joker out of Terri’s deck but pulled the 6 of diamonds instead.  Feeling a little sorry for Old Mr. Mathy, Terri allowed him to try for the Joker.  Bill thought she said try for the 9 of hearts, which he promptly pulled from her deck.  Bill and Keith both split the $10 consolation prize from Frankie Berry.

Griff Duncan of the FCLO today provided the Program.  Griff gave an insightful presentation about the February FCLO production of Phantom.  He explained the differences the more familiar Andrew Lloyd Webber “Phantom of the Opera” and this production of Phantom.  Griff’s presentation also covered the Paris Opera House as well as the culture of Paris during the story’s time period.  As always, Griff gave glimpses of the FCLO which is as interesting as the shows they produce.

Griff mentioned that FCLO will celebrate its 35th anniversary with a special show (Jan. 20-21) featuring former headliners performing songs from 35 years of FCLO productions.

Another great program, Griff!
