Volume 65, Issue 45 Rota-Scribe: Bill Schenk

Prez Joyce opened the meeting and invited Kathy Allred to lead the club in the pledge of allegiance.  Howard Wood lifted our club out of the gray May mood by leading us in songs which included “While strolling through the park one day in the merry, merry month of May".

Leroy Fulton demonstrated what a “Pane in the Glass” he can be when crunch time comes.  He reminded everyone several times to remember that he was just a substitute, and then delivered a very heartfelt invocation (as usual).

Greg Hickman introduced visiting Rotarian John Brainerd of Newport-Irvine Rotary who is the District Governor Nominee (to follow Lane Calvert, current District Govenor Elect.)  Guests included John Miller (Lee Brockett), Rebekah Harvard (Lee Brockett) and Doris Wood (better half of Howard).

Mike Oates presented plaques to the outstanding Boy and Girl Athletes from Troy, High School Fullerton High School, and Sunny Hills High School. These and many other high schoolers recently competed in the Fullerton Rotary Sponsored All City Track meet.

Prez Joyce inducted the worlds newest Rotarian, Fullerton Fire Chief Wolf Knabe to our club.  Wolf’s was introduced by his sponsor Jim Blake and a few remarks about the personal value of Rotary were delivered by Buck Catlin.

Lee Brockett awarded a $500 community grant to Rebekah Harvard of the Boy Scouts of America.

Walt Barnes took exactly one minute to announce that the club has achieved $300 per member Rotary Foundation donation.  Okay, that didn’t take a full minute, but Walt filled the rest of his time telling how important that landmark figure is.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Jim McKamy is mounting a Poker Tournament in the near future and gauged enough club interest to continue his effort.  He will be making future announcements.

Leslie McCarthy and Mike Oates alternately announced the upcoming Top 100 dinners:
Sunny Hills High School this Thursday May 25, and Fullerton High School Wednesday May 31st.

Bill Hite won the raffle but was denied the prize by Prez Joyce for not immediately saying the answer.

Howard Wood introduced the program by outlining the function of the Golden Hearts organization.  Dr. Pat Tretter, Chris Hoover and Dr. Alan Barsari made presentations on ways to keep your heart healthy.
