Volume 65, Issue 42 Rota-Scribe: Minard Duncan

The normal routine took place with President Joyce Capelle opening the meeting after a delicious lunch: Flag Salute - Cathy Gach, Song Master - Howard Wood, Invocation - Mark Magee.

Bill Mathy called upon Rotarian Hosts to introduce their guests: Ray Ashcroft - Wife Mary and friend/piano player Ann Patrick-Green, Walt Barnes - Wife Adrienne, and Lee Myhre and Bob Jahncke - Pat Watkins.

Visiting Rotarians were Sara Carsjens from Norwalk and Steve Eldridge from Fullerton Sunrise.

Recognition Master Jim Williams introduced troubadour Ray Ashcroft who used his melodious voice to sing parts of songs to various Rotarians who had birthdays or anniversaries in April: Birthdays were Nate Kvetny, Larry Larson, John Phelps, Jay Richey, and Chet Schultz’s wife Marcia.

Anniversaries were Paul Dudley, Chuck Munson, and Julianne Haynes. Rotarians who had anniversaries were asked how they kept their marriage together. Responses were “I keep my mouth shut.” and “I don’t know.” and “My husband is out of town a lot.” As Ray sang appropriate lyrics to each of the eight, they were to name the song. Hardly anyone answered correctly except for Paul Dudley.

I missed who won the raffle but I do know that the winner did not know the correct answer.

I think Andy Anderson won a trip to Colorado and Theresa Harvey won a trip to New Orleans!!!

Walt Barnes presented Paul Harris awards to Terri Grassi and Dr. Pat Frank. Way to go Pat and Terri!

The French GSE Team visits Fullerton Rotary

Five members from the GSE team from the southern part of France, an area of vineyards, were introduced by their chaperone. Their ages ranged from 25 to 29. Each spoke briefly to us in English and told us a little about themselves.

Program:
St. Judes' Paulette Fletcher

Burnie Dunlap introduced Paulette Fletcher, R.N from St. Jude Hospital Quality Control. Paulettte spoke to us about Organ Donations when one dies and Organ Donations while one is alive. She told her story about how she saved her husband’s life by donating one of her kidneys to him. Same blood type is all that is required to do a kidney transplant. Her husband immediately felt like his old self!

Husband and wife teams appear to have great success with the transplants.

Paulette told us that there are 91,500 people waiting for organ donations. You can access the proper forms to donate by going to the DMV website.

Prez Joyce closed the meeting with “Live long and prosper.”
