Volume 65, Issue 33 Rota-Scribe: Jay Kremer

Due to the absence of President Joyce Capelle, who had to be at a meeting in Los Angeles, Past President Bob Savage opened the meeting. Bob led the flag salute after Bill Mathy found the flag hidden behind a screen.

Howard Woods led a spirited acapella singing of “God Bless America” and was accompanied by Don Ludwig in singing the Rotary welcome song.

Don Bankhead gave the invocation with special concern for the safety of our troops in the Middle East.

Rick Crane welcomed Rotarian visitors which included Pamkaj Kummar from Irvine Spectrum Club, Bill Gillespie from Fullerton South and Michael Worley from Anaheim.

Rotarians who had guests included J. Richey with guest Gregg Hickman (when will he be a member?), Julie Kemp with her son James, Randy McFarland with his son Matthew and Jim Blake with Fullerton Fire Dept. Chief Wolf Knabe.

Rick Crane also asked members to be sure to get information to Buck Catlin by February 20 for Rotary support of worthy local activities.

Jim McKamy asked for more Rotarians to support the Day at The Races at Santa Anita on April 1. Many Rotarians are already signed up but Jim says a minimum of 50 members is necessary to make the program possible. Call Jim for details.

Walt Barnes announced, for your calendar, that a regional Rotary dinner was scheduled for Saturday March 25.

Minard Duncan noted that the dental clinic at Valencia school went well with 92 patients and two Rotarians, Randy McFarland and Ted E. Bear, in attendance.

Diane Masseth-Jones asked Rotarians to remember the YWCA support dinner, Chocolate Fantasy, on February 25.

Jim Williams, the Recognition Chairman asked Fullerton Police Chief, Pat McKinley to be the Fine Master. Pat and his assistant Geoff Spalding held a mock police lineup for recognized Rotarians. Diane Masseth-Jones was asked to be the witness to identify the wrongdoer. Diane did not identify 01, Bill Hite who had birthday 59; 02, Jim Young who has a grandson who just graduated as a naval aviator; 03 Randy McFarland who spent the week with Ted E. Bear; or line up persons 04, 05 and 06 respectively Bill Kincaid, Joe Lins and Theresa Harvey who were pictured in the St. Jude magazine for their support of the hospital.

Diane Masseth Jones, however, did identify Jack Hayes as the wrongdoer. Jack’s statement that she had told him she was 18 brought a roar of laughter from the Rotarians.

Raffle winner Lee Brockett could not identify Gerald Ford as the President who was shot when going to meet former California Governor Jerry Brown but won $10 from Bob Radde.

Randy McFarland introduced Ahmad Zamra who is a young movie producer. Zamra is a medical doctor who decided to be a movie producer and obtained his training at UCLA. He has produced a film shown on the Hallmark TV program about cooperation among Christian, Jewish and Muslims to do charitable work in Mexico.

Zamra gave a very interesting talk defining how a producer acts similar to a builder or architect to develop a film. Zamra was very knowledgeable in describing all of the many details needed to get a film from an idea to the final product shown in movie theatres. He explained there are several levels of producer from money sources to detail arrangers to friends of the executive producer and how proper credits are given in the film. Many interesting questions from Rotarians were elicited by the talk.
