Program (introduced by Bill Klinghoffer)
We were serenaded by about 7 individual performance of a group of jazz and blues singers (called the J Train) from Fullerton College. It was apparent that they have certainly practiced, not only from their performances but from the fact that they are headed to Carnegie Hall (to perform- not just sit in the audience like the rest of us) in a couple of weeks! Jamie the director of jazz at the college was obviously and justifiably proud of her students and the singers were having a good time performing. There were several toes tapping in the audience, too! Jamie announced a May 7 the Jazz Concert at Wilshire Auditorium and offered lip balm for sale to help raise funds.. Some of the performances featured what I heard is called Scat singing which I think might be a musical version of speaking in tongues or maybe is something they do when they can remember the words. Regardless, it sounded great!
The final performance was an upbeat piece called On the Sunny Side of the Street, not too dissimilar to our old standard, .
Thank you, and we wish you a great trip to New York !
Adjournment
In his well crafted plan to keep us in suspense, Bob Savage refused to divulge what our program will be for next week an obvious ploy to assure we will attend next week just to see what happens next!
