A large Rotarian audience with bated breaths filled the tables and joined Cameron McCune in the Pledge. Then lifted their voices to the the choral rendering of Ron, Howard and Leroy in honor of Rotary's 100 birthday. Jim Young, returning from a world tour with stops at India, Hong Kong, and the Philippine Islands set the tone in Tagalog. Maryalyce Jeremiah, also home from CSUF Women's Basketball trip (they won!) , gave us a Biblical "Thought for the Day" involving Job and the debate about why men suffer. (In light of the misfortunes of families enduring flood damage nowadays, her point was relevant). VISITORS: Karin Lindegaard, visitor from Dragor Rotary Club (Dennmark), also its President-elect enjoined our attendance at the 2006 Rotary International Convention in Copenhagen, Denmark. Muckenthaler Expansion. Pat House described plans for enlarging and improving the Muckenthaler Cultural Center FESD Superintendent Cameron McCune outlined new computer instruction programs at Nicholas, Hermosa Drive and Fisler JHS. Also being constructed is a new gymnasium at Fisler JHS. FINEMASTER Dick Daybell recognized Bill Hite for his 58th Birthday, and Jim Young for his terpsychorean display the Rotary Plummer Fund Raiser last month. RAFFLE: Tom Meyer correctly guessed that successful professionals choose LEXUS automobiles over BMW and Mercedes-Benz as their mode of transportation. (So why are you driving a KIA to work, Tom? gave a most informative and lucid presentation of the field of Regional Occupational Program (ROP). There are 500,000 student from 16 to seniors enroled in 74 such programs in the State. There are 4 in Orange County alone. In addition to having a California Teaching Credential, an instructor must have "industrial experience" to teach a class. ROP students have a Motivational reason for taking a class. Job placement and the offering of professional service are factors different from academic classes. Pres. Frank gave interesting personal examples from her family to illustrate the value of ROP. Finally, she announced that the name ROP has been changed to "Career Technical Education".
