Fullerton Rotary’s Foundation Grants Bob Sattler provided a brief background of our own internal foundation and ended with the hope that it would be remembered in our planned giving now and in the future. He would like to see it become strong enough to be able to support local projects in perpetuity. He then turned the microphone over the members of the committee so that the grant awards could be announced: $1,000 to Ladera Vista for purchasing books for their media center $1,600 to Fern Drive to provide an LCD Projector for the teacher’s use $700 to fund a Kindergarten Sunflower Garden at Laguna Road School and $1,500 for Artist Awards framed and hung in the principle’s office and then sent home with the individual artists $1,000 to Valencia Park School for a K-3rd grade Garden Project Thanks to all the committee members Vern Andrews,Terri Grassi, Ray Hanson, and Bob for their work on this committee. Making his final appearance, Recognition and Fines were parceled out by Dr. Jim Blackburn Birthdays included Jim Vanderburg on 11/11, Jim Blake cost wife Kathy $37, Leroy Fulton on 11-13, Michael Lau announced his wife’s name and was fined fully for the gaff, Jim Blackburn celebrates on the 20th and Mary Ashcroft, Norma Jones and Alma Bean were all honored by their spouses with a $25 donation to the Blackburn Fine Fund. Tom Meyer has been happily married to Linda for 22 years (Linda’s happiness only lasted 1), and Bob Bingaman celebrates 63 years with his wonderful wife. He ended with a recommendation on how to reach inner peace. You must finish all the things you have started. Begin with the open bottle of wine, progress to the balance of the open bottles containing alcohol, eat through the open Oreo’s package and move on to the Prozac. Finish with Valium and you should feel great now! TriviaPresident Bob asked raffle winner Dick Glaus about the total active membership of our club (within 1 or 2). Unable to come up with the number 139, he received $10 from Fred Johnson in consolation. Program Craft Talks from Ron Soderquist and Dick Daybell:Ron Soderquist opened with the fact that he really likes telling a good story, but as his wife was present, he would have to stick to the facts. He met and married in Akron , Ohio in 1954. Started working with the Junior Chamber of Commerce for the Summit County distribution of the Sabin Polio vaccine, was a singer on the Hour of Power for 5 years with the Crystal Cathedral. Made his living from Florida to Texas , Mexico to California as a plastics engineer and helped build several production plants. His is has been a life following the American Dream. Dick Daybell is a graduate of San Jose State and earned his Masters at Stanford in Civil Engineering. He ended up in the Navy OCS at Port Hueneme . Given his choice of stations upon graduation, he asked to be sent anywhere but Florida . Any guesses where he ended up? Right, Patrick Air Force Base in Florida . He had a great time there and really likes being close to the water. His fish stories included a ½ pound blue gill, a 261 pound yellow fin tuna and a 100 pound wahoo. Dick Daybell ended his craftalk with an invitation for Rotarians ALL ABOARD!He loves to fish and hopes that some of us will be able to take advantage for a little fellowship aboard his vessel when he powers to his favorite fishing spot. |
