It's Fun To Be at the Y-M-C-A!!! At precisely 12:10 Acting President Joyce Capelle called the meeting to order and asked Bill Schenk to lead the assembled in the Pledge of Allegiance.. The Rotary quintet sang "My country 'tis of thee" without benefit of accompaniment. Jim Blackburn assumed the song leadership and later remarked that it sounded like we were singing in a gymnasium! Buck Catlin gave the thought for the day and reminded us that Quality and Character are attributes that should be remembered more than political affiliation. Dan Kiernan introduced Visiting Rotarians Dexter Savage from Fullerton South; Dean Heiser introduced Bill Gillespie also from Fullerton South. Chung Lee introduced her guest and fellow Rotarian Dr. Lee Paul from Korea who exchanged club banners. Announcements: Greg Franklin announced availability of advertising space in the Centennial District Directory (2004-2005 collectors edition). Jim McKamy still has tickets left for Santa Anita fellowship day on March 14. He reports 57 Rotarians and guests have signed up so far. |
Di Masseth-Jones announced tickets for March 12 Chocolate Fantasy (an evening at Mardi Gras) for the YWCA which this year honors Don Bankhead as Man of the Year. Rick Crane announced a fellowship Titan baseball outing at Cal-State Fullerton Baseball Stadium on Sunday April 18. Acting President Joyce bestowed Rotarian of the Week honors to Bill Mathy (in absentia) for being in absentia. Nate Kvetny paid recognition to Bill Hite for his birthday Bill avoided a fine by answering correctly a number of questions regarding the history of Rotary. Jim Blackburn was also recognized for his anniversary but likewise avoided a fine for correctly answering the Rotary Quiz. Warren Wimer had the lucky ticket and by correctly answering Acting Prez Joyce question won $80 which he donated to the YMCA. Jim Lapak (our gracious host for todayys meeting) introduced several of the Fullerton YMCA staff members who outlined the many, many programs offered by this facility. Jim then delivered an informative presentation on the long history of the YMCA and told of the many contributions that the Y has made to American society, as well as the community of Fullerton. |
