IT'S BASKETBALL SEASON AT CAL STATE FULLERTON!

The Athletic Director and His Two Basketball Coaches give the lowdown on the state of things on the CalState Basketball program. MORE UNDER"PROGRAM"

The Pledge and the traditional songs by six of the Club's finest voices led off the program. Not included in the vocal sextet was Bob Savage.

He must have been replaced by newcomer Ron Soderquist who joins Regulars Howard Wood and Bill Peloquin from the Orange Empire Chorus. Janie Noppe, Ray Ashcroft and Leroy Fulton rounded out the distaff, ecclesiastical and professional branches of the group.

Al Tetreault's "Thought for the Day" reflected on the "What if's?" that prevail in life. He does not regret the past, nor wish to shut the door on it. Live with what life gives you. With those thoughts the brethren and sistern adjourned to the buffet featuring a main course of Carne de Puerco Rhoadquill topped off with a fine dessert.

Rick Crane, recently deposed Member of the Fullerton Planning Commission (whatdidhedo wrong?) introduced the VISITORS and GUESTS:

Walter Barnes Senior Active from Kauai, Hawaii. (Your Reporter was there on a cruise last week. The weather was so bad the ship couldn't dock. I requested a fine be given Walter since he's been touting the weather in Hawaii. Request denied).

Pat Verwiel guest of Franki Berry Tim MacNamara guest of Diane Masseth-jones

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Final drive to sell out the "Rich Little Performance". Jim Williams led off an auction of $100 for ten tickets (Balcony seats) that Members could give to friends, relatives, students, handicapped or displaced persons. Lots of takers. Bill McGarvey, Dick Mathewson, Dan Kiernan, Franki Berri, Dan Fisk, John Phelps, Mike Oates, Phil Silverman, Jim Williams (PARTIAL LIST).

Ray Hansen announced the awarding of $15,500 Rotary Foundation funds to the Fullerton School District for a number of K-8 schools in District. FSD Trust ELLEN BALLARD and a number of School Principals were on had to express thanks.

Former Rotarian Al Hewitt passed away last week. His memorial service will be at McCauley Wallace Mortuary, Fullerton, 11:00AM Saturday January 24th with a reception at Arbor Manor immediately thereafter.

Claude Jones put out the call for Rotary members assistance 20-22 February for the Club school building project in Mexico.

LOS ALAMITOS RACEWAY party Sunday March 14th. See Dave Schoen for sign-up.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK; Janie Noppe for organizing the Christmas Harbor Lights Cruise. She was prepared with dramamine for any landlubber Rotarians but there were no takers. A good time was had by all.

FINEMASTER Jim McCamy posed a list of obscure questions from the ROTARIAN Magazine that baffled the birthday celebrants: Dick Glaus and Keith Mills. (Now, what local Rotarian would know the name of the District Secretary? Jim Young, maybe!).

RAFFLE: Chet Schultz (Again!!) with #0830. Another impossible question: From a list of animals which did the ELKS Club (B.P.O.E.) select its name. Chet chose "Weasel". Wrong.

THE PROGRAM,

CSUF Athletic Director Brian Quinn introduced his Women's and Men's Basketball coaches for this season. The former is a past member of our Club, Mary Alice Jeremiah who coached championship Titan women's Teams nineteen years ago. She was the first woman member of our club. (Second was Carolyn Tormey). Her credo is "Do your best. Play to win, but if you lose remember the good things. Enjoy the game. Teach competitiveness which is the ingredient for winning teams.

COACH BOB BURTON started coaching at the community college level and progressed to university. He starts with the losing past season and is in a building program. The team lost five starters last year. Bob would like to build with Orange County players from high school.

Prez Mathy closed with the motto from Dan Rather, "It is easy to make a buck. Making a difference is much harder".

Proposed New Rotarian: Mary Alice Jeremiah, by Ray Hansen
