Prez Bill wished everybody a Happy New Year and toasted those assembled with a nice steaming cup of coffee. Franki Berry led the Pledge of Allegiance, then Griff Duncan and the Dunc-tones (Jim Blackburn, Howard Wood, Bill Peloquin, and Ray Ashcroft) appropriately sang "let old acquaintance be forgot" as well as the more friendly and lyrical "Smile". Mike Oates gave the thought for the day in defense of Cowboys and their moral attributes. Frank Kawase introduced visitors after waxing philosophically on 2004, the year of the Monkey. Carolyn Milliken (Principal of Ladera Vista HS) was a guest of Cameron Mc Cune. And Bob Fair (for Chrysler-Plymouth Dealer) was a guest of Dick Glaus. Griff Duncan announced that good seats are still available for the Rich Little concert (these seats are so choice that you can watch the show and catch a train at the same time!). Minard Duncan needs volunteers for the Fullerton Rotary Sponsored Dental Clinic at Richmond School on Saturday January 17. Sign up for a shift or for the whole day (7:30 to 1PM) No dental experience necessary. Minard also needs suggestions for the Fullerton Centennial Committee of which he is the Fullerton Rotary representative. Wally Bartelt announced that no one within thirty miles of Fullerton won the Plasma TV at the District Raffle, although our club did raise $3600 for the Rotary Foundation. Wally also anounced that the Foundation dinner would be a semi-formal event (formal from the waist up and casual from the waist down) to be held on March 14 in Rancho Capistrano. Tickets are $30 per person. |
John Phelps presented his love of Rotary (symbolically) to Nate Kvetney in the form of a Chinese silk tie. Nate promptly exchanged it with the one he was already wearing and made a recipricol love offering back to John. Mister Phelps undoubedly realized on his drive home that his attempt to get rid of one wildly colorful tie netted him another wildly colorful one. Duncan Johnson has resigned from the Fullerton Rotary Club in a heartfelt letter that was read by Prez Bill. Former Rotarian Member Al Hewitt passed away. Claude Jones announced that six to eight guys are need to put a new roof on the Orphanage that is our International Service project this year. Claude has reserved a bank of rooms at the glorius Hotel Coral and hopes that the six to eight volunteers will bring their spouses so that some fellowship may be enjoyed that week-end. (Feburary 20, 21,22). Claude also told of a generous donation of 12 sets of mattresses that have been donated and delivered to the orphanage. Bill Peloquin, Dan Kiernan, and Bill Mathy were the judges for the annual Rotary Joke-a-thon this year. The following Rotarians submitted jokes and/or Comedy routines: Jim Williams, Jim Thompson, Dick Mathewson, Ray Hansen, Bill Peloquin, Nate Kvetny, Griff Duncan, Greg Franklin, Drew Napolin, Minard Duncan, Jack Hayes, Verne Andrews, Dick Jones, Jim Blackburn, Julie Kemp, and Dick Glaus. Jack Hayes was deemed joke teller of the year. |
