Volume 61, Issue 9
Written and reported by Chris Hunt

With the tragic events of Tuesday not far from anyone's mind, the club came together with Greg Franklin leading us in a strong-voiced and heartfelt Pledge of Allegiance. Greg told us how his students in reaction to the previous days spontaneously began reciting the pledge to our country.. Continuing in this vein, Griff led us in America the Beautifull and Smile... The Reverend Jon West provided a beautiful and comforting Thought for the Day beginning with the verse from America the Beautiful,, thine alabaster cities gleam undimmed by human tears Thank you, Jon.

Our guests, many who are prospective members, (Yeah!) were introduced by Scott Dowds:

John Kunau, guest of Scott Dowds; Chris Meyer, guest of Paul Dudley; Cameron McCune, new FSD Superintendent, guest of Mike Escalante; Damon Dragos, new principal of Sunny Hills High, guest of Greg Franklin; Steve Seymour, guest of Jack Warner; Jim LePack, YMCA exec, guest of Rick Crane

When asked to share with us what he enjoyed about Rotary, Bill Mathy summed it up with three little words, it's the people... In addition, he enjoys the opportunity to help his community, the bad jokes and the food is pretty good, too.. Bill then invited up our three new members:

Pat House, Executive Director of the Muckenthaler Center, sponsored by Bob McNutt
Minard Duncan, retired Fullerton school teacher, sponsored by Mike Oates
Josephine McAulay, of McAulay Wallace, sponsored by Winston Creel

Jim Young did the honors of introducing the women including the trivia that his daughter had dated Jo's husband, Bill and noted that Jo had won.. We are pleased to have all three outstanding new members join us!!! Welcome to Rotary!!

Rotarian of the Week was held over, as recipient, Jack Hayes, was absent.. Jack's very clever rendition of Hutchison at the Bat can be viewed on the Fullerton Rotary website, www.fullertonrotary.org.

Greg Franklin held the ticket for the opportunity drawingg (Prez Bill is so P.C.). Citing a similarity with JFK, President Bill asked him when Lincoln was assassinated.. Greg guessed 1864.. The right answer was 1865 and he took the $10 consolation prize from Daniel Kang (Bill is tough!).

President Bill proceeded to read us a list of uncanny similarities between Lincoln and Kennedy.

Frank Kawase is still looking for young professionals wishing to travel to England for the Group Study Exchange.

Recognition Master Jim Blackburn requested that someone please cough up the funds to replace our microphone stand.. Then he proceeded to levy fines on Art Levine who turned 46 and Chuck Munson, James Ko and Griff Duncan for spousal birthdays. Soon to be headed to one off theMr. Blackburn does his "thing" trust fund capitals of the world, Jim Armstrong celebrates 23 years with wife, Linda.. Bill Mathy took it on the chin for the bad joke comment.. Football recognition: Tom Meyer, Ed Little and Claude Jones of the Fighting Illini paid up for only beating Northern Illinois (who?) by 5 points.. Lee Myhre apologized to all the Catholics for what Nebraska did. As did John Phelps for Stanford's win over Boston College. Buck Catlin was in denial of the 70-7 Navy defeat by Georgia Tech, remembering it as a 7-0 loss. Sorry, Buck!

Chris Fraschetti introduced our speaker for the day, Jim Muller of Productive Learning and Leisure. Jim is a motivational speaker who presents workshops and training on communications, improving relationships and personal development.. His presentation, Does Your Thinking Limit Your Successs, was highly interactive and energetic. Everything we have in life is a product of our thoughts. We all have reasons or justifications as to why we don't have what we want in life, be it money, love, success, etc.. He suggests that we can change our live by paying attention to our thinking. Being conscious of how we make choices and how we limit the types of choices we have.. Seeing more choices gives us more power in choosing the results and achieving more of what we want in life.
