President, Chief Pat McKinley opened the meeting today. The Howard Wood Singers led us in two Rotary favorites to honor our visiting dignitary.” Vern Andrews led us in the pledge prior to the Howard taking the field with Ray Ashcroft, Greg Hickman, Randy McFarland, Bill Peloquin and Bob Savage. Reverend Hickman requested that God Bless us all and for us not to have a relationship with Him akin to the current stock market, but a stable one where we always kept him near. President Pat reminded us that “To whom much is given, much is expected,” as an opening to this particular meeting. Wally Swatkowski (best auto painter in town) introduced us to visitors and guests: Bill Peloquin welcomed his wonderful wife Wilma; Martin Hebelin and Ray Gagnon from Fullerton South came to see how THE ROTARY CLUB of Fullerton was doing. Greg Hickman brought us Teresa Prado, Fred Johnson brought us Michael Saluards and Pat McKinley introduced us to Deacon Jay Milam, all who were proposed as prospective new members in last week’s Roto-Gram. Announcements by Rick Crane who opened with a shot at the UCLA football team who apparently went missing on their way to BYU, much to the delight of President Pat who is a USC graduate (Go Notre Dame!): 9/23/08 is The Muck’s Kid’s Art Day from 3:15 p.m. and opened to the public. See Zoot Velasco for more information.

President Pat introduced us to our new District Governor of 5320, Roger McGonegal. Governor McGonegal’s plan for the year includes: A push to all clubs to aggressively recruit dedicated new members Consistent support from the District Great projects to get involved in – with an emphasis on literacy To HAVE FUN as a group! To always be open to learning Our job as he defines it is to make children’s dreams real on a local, national and international level and reduce the rate of child mortality. Plans are on track to use the $100,000,000 grant from the Gates Family as a starting block to reach beyond our membership for matching funds from the international community to continue to attack polio. He reminded us of the $1,500 community grants. Roger continued to request attendance at our conventions, leadership development training and to get involved in a Rotary Work Day on April 25th, 2009. He also asked us to participate in promoting March 22nd, 2009 as World Water Day and help the movement come to Orange County by participating with restaurants and public venues where people make a $1.00 donation for each glass of water they receive in those settings. The proceeds would go to fund water projects for the 2 billion people who have no access to clean water. All are great programs and as President Pat stated, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Support your Foundation!
