Volume 67, Issue 46 Rota-Scribe: Randy McFarland

Opening traditional trio

Wielding his waning moments of quasi-control over the club, President Tom Meyer asked Randy McFarland to lead the pledge. Soon-to-be president elect Jeff Hutchison offered the invocation and Howard Wood, with his entourage, (75% of us are real singers and the forth once won a church karaoke contest)  led the attendees in song while Don Ludwig, our treasurer, cooperatively coaxed the keyboard in concert with our cacophony.

Welcome and Introductions

We had the honor of having Ray Ashcroft’s wife, Mary Ruth, as our solo guest.

Announcements

Dan Ouwelleen asked potential van drivers for the June 16 Host Hospitality event.
Bob Clark, Jr. presented Zoot Velasco (representing the Muckenthaler Cultural Center)  with a “community investment” check.
Bill Schenk suggested that members complete or take a sign-up form to register for the ever-popular annual DEMOTION NIGHT event to be held the evening of June 25th at the Wyndham Hotel.

Randy McFarland reviewed the schedule for the June 16 Host Hospitality event where we’ll be welcoming attendees of the Rotary International Convention in Los Angeles.

Zoot reminded us of the generous “Rotary discount” available for Muck events.

Recognitions

Tom Meyer started things by having Jo Ann Brannock tell us that 14 scholars from 5 local high schools who were recipients of the “Cherami” Foundation scholarship awards, founded by she and husband Fred 8 years ago. The foundation receives support from many donors, including our club!

Bill Schenk continued the honors by singling out Jim Young for receiving a “Lifetime Achievement Award” Nate Kvetny was fined for a “hair raising” experience at the barbershop, as was Dean Stockwell for monitoring how many desserts Mark Geiss enjoyed.

Recognitions - (continued)

John Phelps simply smiled when “Stanford” and “Cal State Fullerton” were mentioned.

Lee Myhre will be celebrating 57 years or marital bliss on June 10. We want to hear the secret, Lee.. or should we be asking Jackie?

Marty Burbank and Bill Klinghoffer are celebrating their 44th and 74th birthdays and Jeff Hutchison was serenaded for having his BD today!

Opportunity Drawing

Anxious to ramp up the excitement of this tradition, Tom arbitrarily decided to just give half of ticket sales to the winner of the drawing, Warren Wimer.

Program

Jim McKamy introduced David Gill and his official projectionist, Nicki Marino. David is an official host/ambassador for Disneyland Resort which consists of the original Disneyland park, California Adventure, 3 resort hotels and Downtown Disney.
Following the intent of Walt Disney, expansion and improvement is always in the future at D-Land. David pointed out that a mere 2.2 acres of D-Land is responsible for 50% of tax revenues for the city of Anaheim. Near the entrance of the park, plans include a recreation of California in the 1920s.  Two imminent attractions, “Toy Story Midway Adventure” and “Carsland”,  will be interactive rides/games which will make the riders want to immediately get in line again. $1.2 billion is expected to go into upcoming expansions.
Tom’s closing remark: “When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.”
