President Bob called us to order pretty much on time, and Daniel Kang did a fine job of leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Griff Duncan and the Tones accompanied by Don Ludwig led those present in "God Bless America" and "Smile". (Some smiled more than others.) J Ritchey provided a lovely thought for the day concerning how much each of us has within ourselves and how important that is as we strive to move a divided nation ahead. A relative paucity of announcements President Bob mentioned that Al Tetreault had made copies of the Program Schedule available. Make sure to pick yours up. Claude Jones indicated that there were still about dozen vacancies for Holiday Boat Parade event on 12/19 at eh Balboa Bay Club. Bus transportation will be provided from Fullerton and back. See Claude muy pronto or he may invite those "guys" from other clubs. Griff Duncan once again give up the "low down" on the Annual Concert scheduled for 1/29/05. See Winston Creel for tickets. Guests and visiting Rotarians Carl Camp, riveting public speaker, introduced visitors and guests, which included: Ted Russell, an Entomologist from Placentia Some guy named RACO from Santa Monica (former club president and Hawaii native) Michael La proposed new member and guest of Daniel Kang Recognitions and Celebrations Don Ludwig was noted on the occasion of Ms Ludwig's B'day John Derry was a Halloween baby (no comment) Joann Brannock's third grandson was born this Halloween in Birmingham Alabama (a fine place to be from) Bob Jahncke was recognized in absentia for his B'day on 11/1 Bill and Shirley Kincaid will celebrate their anniversary on Thursday. ROP in the Fullerton Joint Union HS District
Franki Berry introduced Michael Worley, Kathleen De La Rosa, Cindy Osborne, Kristen Pina and Kara Bluntach as representatives of SHHS FUHS and Troy HS to bring us up to date on The Regional Occupation Program (ROP) as it exists in Fullerton. ROP is a fine topic for October as Vocational Education Month. A variety of tracks are available for students, who either 16 or more years of age or have become juniors or seniors. Among the possibilities are:
Transportation support is available for those who need it. Both day and evening programs are provided, and all programs have a n emphasis upon employability issues, early career exploration and the connection of the curriculum with the real world, e.g. here is what you can really do with Algebra. ROP is fine program for all students and especially those who yearn for an immediate career. But, everyone eventually needs a job, ROP can help folks select a direction and build some skills for success. Prez Bob dismissed us with the suggestion that we could make more friends by showing interest in others than you can by trying to make folks interested in you. Editors note- This will likely be the last Rotagram from which I will be your scribe. Like most everything else in Rotary- what little effort I have exerted has been repaid with interest many times over. As Bill McGarvey is fond of saying, if you spread your bread upon the waters, sometimes it comes back "buttered" . |
