Volume 64, Issue 15 Rota-Scribe: Bill Schenk

After the usual Salute to our flag and traditional singing Ray Hansen gave the thought for the day and read from an article that cited personal rather that physical wonders of the world.

Vern Andrews introduced Rotarians with guest that included: Pat House (Sharon Kennedy), Bill Heaton (Patty Shay), Franki Berry (Gary Brassfield), Carl Camp (Carl Lachman, Scott Rojas), Minard Duncan (Jay Kraemer), Wally Swatkowski (Sharon Quirk), Ray Ashcroft (Mary), and Buck Catlin (Bobbi & Sister in law Janet).

Board of Directors meeting notes:

Due to the ascension of Joyce Cappelle to the office of President-elect, Bob Clark Jr. will fill her vacated office of Vice-President.

Prez Bob read letters from the Academy Arts Foundation thanking them for their Fullerton Rotary community service award as well as from the Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church expressing gratitude for the Club members donation to the Alan Atwell Scholarship.

Other Announcements:

Next Thursday morning there will be a program committee meeting at 7:30 AM at Carrows chaired by Al "T".

Tickets are available for a Dinner and Boat Parade at the Balboa Bay Club on Sunday, December 19. Approx. $70 per person and includes bus trip from the Elks Lodge parking lot. Contact Claude Jones for tickets and details.

Minard Duncan is our club representative to the Fullerton Centennial and he announced a Centennial Ball in November.

Griff Duncan has tickets for the annual Fullerton Rotary Club Concert to be held January 29th, 2005 at the fabulous Plummer Auditorium. The Concert will feature music from Fullerton High School, Fullerton College, and Cal-State Fullerton, plus alumni. A $5000 dollar honorarium will be paid to each program group.

Jim Blackburn is saving his best bits for his last week or two of duty (Jim is taking a position at the California State University Chancellor’s office in Long Beach so he will be leaving the club after Thanksgiving).

Today he recognized Carl Camp for the 4-0 record of Alma Mater Purdue, but fined Lee Myhre for the dismal start of Nebraska. Lee offered no defense, which is precisely what the Cornhuskers offer every Saturday.

Jo Brannock celebrates a spousal birthday this week as do David Schoen and Franki Berry. They all have some living to do to catch up with Bob Engemann who celebrates his 84th Birthday on the 18th.

Program:

Buck Catlin introduced our speaker today who was non other than than than than Dr. Barbara Stone from Cal- State Fullerton Political Science department. Dr. Stone gave her insightful and humorous take on the upcoming elections. She has been teaching Political Science since 1965 and has a way of understanding issues and knowing the trends the electorate will vote. By the end she had almost every head nodding in understanding, except Dr. Blackburn’s. His was spinning!
