The Report of The City Manager

Chris Meyer, City Manager
Leroy Fulton introduced Chris Meyer for a report of our City Manager. Chris did an internship with the City of Fullerton while a grad student at CSUF (1976) and just stayed until he became city manager upon the departure of Jim Armstrong.

Chris said that more than being the Biggest Small town around, Fullerton is the 35th largest city in California and the 172nd largest city in the US.

Efficiency and cost savings, e.g. out sourcing have made it possible for Fullerton to reduce its work force, while population increased almost 20% since 1980. the city's 177 million dollar budget is balanced even though the sources of 68% of its revenue have not kept up, e.g. the state continues to "raid" several important tax bases.

Chris updated the club on several projects both of the city as well as private and non-profit "partners", e.g. Richman Park, Laguna Lake, Amerige Heights, "SOCO", Amerige Court and the Transportation Center.

Issues on Fullerton's horizon include downtown parking, sewer maintenance, expiring union contracts and a still ailing state budget.

In closing, Chris gave a plug for Proposition 1A, which will be part of the November ballot.

Next week, Rotarian Drew Napolin will talk on the mater of our aging population and planning for our futures and those of others.

Note from Yorba Linda Rotary Club President: "Would you please notify your club that we have changed our meeting day from Friday to Wednesday, beginning on September 1. Our beginning time is now 12:00 noon. We will still meet at the Yorba Linda Country Club."
