Club Announcements today:

Dan Ouweleen announced that there is an upcoming e-waste day repurposed for veterans on Saturday Sep 18th (anything that plugs in counts as e-waste) The e-waste day will be held at Pac Min.

Sep 22nd we will not be meeting at our regular lunch. Instead we will be meeting at the e-waste event at Pac Min Saturday sep18th. This will be in place of our regular meeting.

Jim Williams gave an announcement on our Rotary members. Dick Mathewson is at St. Jude hospital. He will accept calls. Blake Smith is also at St Jude.

Marty Burbank’s wife Seon lost both her parents due to covid in South Korea. Please keep Marty Burbank and his family in your prayers

Leland Wilson announced that he has resigned from Fox Theater.

Zoot Velasco led us in a karaoke sing along in lieu of a song master today. The club gave a hearty sing a-long to “I can’t get no satisfaction”

Special recognition and a change agent chip goes to Leslie McCarthy for hosting last weeks bbq event at the Boys & Girls Club.

Duck race time! Winning duck today is #30, which has no winner, so next week it will be $40

Baily Kline also had a birthday last week. Brett Ackerman was asked by Baily to hang a birthday sign at the Boys and Girls Club and was fined $5 for no sign.
Labor day is coming up so Fine master Baily fined all retired Rotarians $5.00.

Laura first joined Providence St. Jude in 2009 as manager of the critical care and step down units. Later she became director of cardiology, neurology and emergency services, and was named vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer in 2014. In 2020, Laura was promoted to chief operating officer where her focus on quality, affordability and the patient experience, as well as her partnership and collaboration with providers, helped earn the ministry national recognition for its stroke, orthopedics, cardiac care, neuroscience and digestive health programs, to name a few. She was recently appointed as Chief Executive of Providence. St. Jude Medical Center

Laura gave us an in-depth look into the challenges and achievements of St. Jude especially during this difficult Pandemic. March 9th 2020 St. Jude received it’s first Covid patient. Laura gave special thanks to Rotary Club for Donated face shields to St. Jude Medical Center. Many of which were made by our Rotarians. St. Jude caregivers tried their best to communicate between patients and their loved ones.

When Covid first hit there were more older patients 60s and above. Now Covid is affecting more younger patients 30s, 40s and 50s. and pregnant mothers.

Among other challenges, the hospital is also currently affected by National staffing shortage.

Laura announced that there is recommendation of a third vaccine instead of a booster shot.

Laura gave a detailed report of the changes and programs that St. Jude Thank fully there is not many young children at the hospital due to covid.

Laura also confirmed that People that vape and smoke is more likely to compromise their health if infected with Covid.

To thank Laura, Zoot gave 50 shares of Rotary Club of Fullerton stock to her, as well as a Change agent chip

Zoot Closed the meeting today with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”
