Zoot Velasco opened today’s meeting stepping in for President Kaisch. “No sermon today, I’m just wishing everyone peace on earth andgood will towards man”. Allyn Lean led us in the pledge as well as providing today’s invocation. Guests today included Dick Daybell, Sally Williams, Joe Arnold and Jane Mathewson of Dick and Jane fame, as well as Alexander the Quarantined. We also had a special guest, Monette Velasco and her kitten Peppercorn, who together sang us a holiday song to get us all in the Christmas spirit. Zoot then led with Christmas karaoke and shared a most irreverent artificial intelligent Christmas song, which was a mesh of every Christmas song every written. Back by popular demand, Zoot again recited It Was a Night Before Rotary.

Today’s announcements: Susan Ouweleen asked fellow Rotarians to join her this Saturday at the EV Free Church in Fullerton to help assemble additional face shields needed by St. Jude’s Hospital staff; Zoot Velasco asked for volunteers to help on the membership committee. Bailey Kline will oversee membership next year. Cathy Gach asked that you date your donation checks before January 1st if you are wanting a tax deduction for year 2020; Bill Mathy announced that he dropped off diapers from the diaper drive to Pathways of Hope and WTLC and thanked Monica Fernandez for all her hard work organizing this drive; Dr. Faisal Qazi gave us an update from St. Jude’s. Faisal said they are experiencing a nursing shortage and are having to use all available space in the hospital for Covid patients in addition to the tents that have been set up in the parking lot. Faisal also mentioned that we should not be discouraged to go the emergency room if needed.

Zoot then led us in a series of games: Guess the Jingle, Duck Races, Video Bingo, Rotary Trivia, and Team Pictionary. Jim Ripley won all games by default as Bill Mathy was disqualified along with his team for taking over the Zoom drawing function, preventing others from participating. Shame on you Bill Mathy.

With that, Zoot called the meeting to an end and wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
