President Mike Cochran Opened today’s meeting with a few thoughts. This is now our 8th zoom meeting! The board will meet next month for a joint session of the present and new board members! President Mike Cochran also gave interesting post covid19 world news updates! These are special times. Invocation today was delivered by Jeff Hutchinson. Joe Arnold led the pledge today. Our fine master today is Dick Mathewson whom began by sharing a heartwarming article that reminded us of the true meaning of Memorial Day. In this covid-19 world where we complain about first world problems such as toilet paper, long lines and hand sanitizers, please take a moment to remember and appreciate the sacrifices that our veterans made. Fine master Dick Mathewson then proceeded to fine everyone with a hobby listed on their profile. Those of you that lead boring lives have escaped the fine today and saved a buck! Please consider donating that buck to the club! Those fined for their hobbies today include Joe Arnold, fined for his interest in history. Bill Hite was fined for his love of antique cars, Marty Burbank was fined for a long list of hobbies. Mike Oats was fined for being himself. Travis McShane was fined for his interest in Surfing. Joe Lins was fined for $5 Bob Muschek was fined for owning a RV and take it out on road trips. Cathy Gach’s anniversary is today and she’s happy to announce that Cedar Creek is open. Ken Kaisch made a proud announcement that his son, the deputy administrator for San Joaquin County did a wonderful job of helping the homeless off the streets. Dan Ouweleen introduced our guest speaker Hilda Sugarman today. Hilda is currently the VP of Fullerton school board. She served on the board since 1996. She is also the President of Fullerton Technology Foundation. She’s also a member of the All the arts for all the kids foundation, Assistance league of Fullerton and Project inkwell. She’s very involved with children’s programs in the city. Her husband Mike is the President of the St. Jude Heritage Medical Group. She is also a proud grandmother of 6 grandchildren. Hilda did an update on the current school plans for reopening. She mentioned that distant learning is now the new norm. Teachers are teaching using programs such as zoom to teach their students. Due to social distancing, food is now a problem for our kids and their families. The schools have partnered with local restaurants to serve our kids in the community that normally depend on meal plans. These restaurants make food with requirements in alliance to state guidelines. In other news, Title 1 Schools are rolling out their summer school program. 1000 kids already signed up for summer school. Online awards are created to incentivize the kids to join the summer programs. The School Board is making sure that every child has a device to participate in the remote learning programs. The school board also send out hotspots so kids can be connected online. Great news for the parents. The schools are scheduled to open on Aug 11th 2020! In order to help parents that worry about the safety and health of their kids, Independent study, like home school. Zoom programs part time are in place to prepare for the new norm. Other preparations in place for the school opening include, hand washing stations. Masks for all students and employees. Temperatures will be taken hopefully with temperature stations. Junior high schools teachers will switch between classrooms instead of children switching classes High risk techers and kids will be addressed. Teachers of higher age are scheduled to teach through distant learning. The board also Created a committees with teachers and staff and coaches tasked to meet all the criteria from all government To help raise money, Fulleron education is flocking homes. This is a program that surprises an individual for a special occasion such as birthday or anniversary or graduation. For $30, someone will come to the home at night and decorate the lawn with 50 flamingos and signs and name from person that sent it.
