The meeting was called to order by president Mike Cochran Club News: 1) Superbowl Party will be held at the Elks Club. This is a fellowship event and Rotarians will be admitted free along with one guest. Attendance exempt members and other guests - $25. No host bar (but you are welcome to buy the first round) 2) Fullerton’s Got Talent is scheduled for February 23. Plan to attend! (see ways you can get involved further in the email). Things in our world this day: 1) Life boy soap was trademarked on this day. Who knew? 2) In 1939, the uranium atom was first split using the cyclotron at Columbia University in New York City. Thus began the Manhattan project leading to the construction of the atomic bomb. Club Announcements: 1) Community Investment Awards Nominations are now open and due no later than February 12. Contact Rick Crane for more information 2) Fullerton’s Got Talent on February 23, 2020, is the club’s annual fundraiser. Every member can participate. Ways to help: a. Attend – active members receive two VIP tickets with vouchers good for participating restaurants on the day of the event b. Promote the event to friends and family c. Invite others to attend as your guest (tickets are $35) d. Share posts on social media and include a link to www.FullertonsGotTalent.org e. Vote for your favorite talent on the website - $1 per vote f. Sponsor the event and share with others g. Volunteer on the day of the event Ask Dan Ouweleen, Zoot Velasco, or Joe Arnold for more information Finemaster: Joyce Capelle recognized, insulted and pilfered funds from club leadership and others to help bolster the club’s coffers. A great time was had by all – particularly those who were in attendance to celebrate significant milestones. Program: CSU Fullerton’s baseball coach, Rick Vanderhook shared stories about his 30 plus years at the university and his love for Titan Baseball. The program included updates on the team, the university and the legacy of CSUF baseball. Closing Thoughts: Cochran closed the meeting with the following thoughts noting that he has crossed the halfway point in his Rotary year.
