Rotary Wheel Rotagram - Meeting Note and Club News Rotary Wheel
Volume 79 Issue 25 Wed, Jan 8, 2020 Rota-Scribe: Theresa Harvey

Proposed new Member: Bailey Kline, Internet Service Provider, by Theresa Harvey

Mike Cochran, Opened the meeting with a welcome back after the holiday season. He announced that Don Bankhead, long time member passed away on 23 Dec. Don has spent much of his time serving the community in Rotary, the city council and the city at large. He will be missed. In addition, Patrick McKinley has resigned from the club. Pat is moving to a retirement setting in Dana Point.

A reminder that on Feb 2 there will be a super Bowl party at the Elks Lodge. There will be food and drink available. This is a catered event free to all active full pay Rotarians. Attendance exempt members and guests are $25 each. Please RSVP to Dan Ouweleen by 25 Jan so we can provide a headcount.

No major inventions were recorded on this day in history. However, it is noteworthy that the Dow Jones industrial average topped the 2,000 mark the first time on 8 Jan 1987. Who bought then?

Jim Williams led us in the Pledge of allegiance to the U.S.

Joe Arnold led the invocation.

Our Guests for the day included Baily Kline, who is joining the club; Lois Daybell, wife of our former President Dick Daybell; Martha Hernandez of Fullerton College; and Beatrice Mendoza of the YWCA.

Announcements: Thad Sandford reported that the Air Force Singing Sergeants will be on the West Coast in February and will make their first concert stop in Fullerton on 11 February at the First United Methodist Church. This is an outstanding coral group that you should not miss. The church has great acoustics. Flyers were handed out. Questions can be addressed to the church office at 714-871-4115.

Joe Arnold and Christian Esteban announced the Rotary sponsored ‘Fullerton’s got Talent’ scheduled for 23 April. A new web site is up to support; see Christian if you have questions. Everyone should/must tell your friends and neighbors. We need a good turnout, because it will be good and because the club and our charities need the support.

Kim Barlow led the recognitions. Celebrating Rotarian anniversaries are Christian Esteban at 1 year; Cathy Gach at 24 years; Irene Lange at 12 years; Ken Kaisch at 33 years. Scot Dowds is celebrating 41 years of marriage. Joe Lins is celebrating his 64th birthday.

Kim asked everyone who had voted for Don Bankhead to stand and then fined us $1 each. Everyone who did not stand were fined $2. Jim Williams stood and bragged about his new granddaughter and then made a $20 donation.

Joe Lins introduced our Speaker, Pete Bowen. Pete is a former pilot in the Marines, Consultant, Speaker, and Author. Pete gave a great, inspirational talk on High Performance leadership in work, family and life. The key is value of relationships in a good life. I recommend his talk. He has a pod cast entitled: Wisdom, Leadership, Success: Real Talk about Life. Go to Instagram@reapetebowen, or facebook @ realpetebowen.

Mike Cochran closed the meeting with 3 interesting quotes:
