The meeting started off with the pledge given by Bob Jahncke, followed by the prayer given by Ken Kaish. Our song master was Griff Duncan, who led us in “Amazing Grace”; I think it was one of the group’s best performances. Everyone hit the good notes!
Prez Dick introduced our only guest Ron, Newell from Rotary South. Jim Williams added that Ron was the Past President of Rotary South and has been a rotary member for 45 plus years. Prez also introduced our guest speaker Laura Macias from Joya Scholars.

The Fine Master was Chief Pat. They must have known he was coming because most of the people that were to be fined didn’t show! But our fine master took things into his own hands and fined whoever he could.
Dick Jones was fined for his exemplary Air Force service and his awards. Wow the fine master gets his money any way he can.
Scott Dowds was fined just for being Scott!
Jim Williams, Jay Kremer, and Lee Brockett were fined for being nice guys and doing a great job for the club. Remember no good deed goes unpunished!
Larry Bennett was fined for throwing his hat in the ring for the upcoming Council elections. Go team Bennett!
Marty Burbank was fined for adopting a school class and helping them with their education. Way to go fine master!
Dick Mathewson was even fined for having 40 years in rotary.
Our program featured the Executive Director of Joya Scholars, Laura Macias telling us about the organization. Joya inspires and prepares students for college. Joya actually means “Jewel” in Spanish, a tribute to the garnet area of Fullerton they serve.
Laura gave us a presentation outlining the program and how it helps those underprivileged kids in the garnet area try to attain a college education. She spoke of several stories of students heading to college and succeeding in life. Joya does not give scholarships but instead helps and guides students in the pursuit of a college education.
Prez Dick called out the lottery ticket winner, but unfortunately, Don Bankhead did not pick the blue chip to win the money, maybe because the blue chip was not in the bag! Prez Dick acted like he misplaced it, but we know his true motive, more money for him to win next time.
Kim Barlow led us in the four way test and the meeting was adjourned.
