Allyn wants to build a Team Spirit

New Prez Allyn Lean rang the bell three times to get the hang of it and seems like he’s going to catch on pretty quickly.

Daniel Kang gave the invocation and Matt Apodaca led the flag salute before Pastor Greg Hickman and Maestro Don Ludwig handled the singing.  The club gave a pretty un-inspired rendition of Take Me Out To The Ball Game, before hitting the ball out of the park with SMILE.

Prez Allyn laid his ground rules about announcements and was pretty sure he communicated effectively the moratorium on non-Rotary announcements; Right off the Bat New Orlean Saint girl Kimberly Barlow gave a WTLC announcement.

Dan O announced that there will be a Jog-aThon committee meeting next Thursday at Pac-Min at 4:30.  Plans and funds are well on their way for this year’s event, but Dan says he can still use some help with telephoning business to get sponsorships.   Call Dan for details.

J. Ritchey presented Past-Prez Scott with a gift certificate for a local restaurant to commemorate his stellar term as Prez.  Randy McFarland presented Scott with a lovely framed copy of the demotion night program and last but not least Prez Allyn presented Scott with an impressive crystal award for Rotary District Service.

Howard Minkley introduced Acacia School 1st grade teacher Kristine Spencer who thanked the Fullerton Rotary Club for our donation to her classroom that enabled her to purchase several I-Pads.  She presented a handmade thank-you card from her first grade class that had pictures drawn by the kids of them using the I-Pads.

Pastor Greg introduced visitors that included Gary Swank (perspective member); Bobbie Catlin (Buck); Janny Meyer (Buck, Bobbie, and Chris) and Mary-Ruth Ashcroft (Ray).

We welcomed Minard Duncan back after a recovery for back surgery. Good to see you back Minard!!!

Rick Crane announced that Tom Meyer’s father passed away recently.

Zoot Velasco made a rather lengthy announcement about our opportunity drawing that promises to get shorter and shorter each week.  Bill Hite won the inaugural drawing but as usual he was lucky at love, but unlucky at cards.

Past Prez Scott was the Finemaster today and before he got down to it he recognized every member who did not display team colors for $1.
Terri Prado and Bob Radde warranted honorable mention for wearing “Team Colors” today.  Not only did they dress as USC cheerleaders but Terri grabbed Bob by the ankles and Bob knocked out 53 push-ups to signify the final score of the upcoming USC-Hawaii game to kick off the season (53-0).  Well done Terri and Bob.   FIGHT ON!

Bill Schenk was awarded a check for $74.00 that was made out to the Jog-a-thon in his name.  Bill had filled his Ceremonial Ceramic Pig with change and presented it to Scott a few weeks ago and specified the change to go to the Jog-a-thon (which is a great use of a Ceremonial Ceramic Pig!
Scott got down to the good stuff and recognized Vern Andrews for Barbara’s birthday.

Don Bankhead was Born on the Fourth of July and admitted that he cannot be an old fart because he’s only "50" this year.
Coincidentally, Bob Hathaway also only admits to 50 (7/14).  Pat Hartnet took the 5th and didn’t identify which birthday he just celebrated.

Ray Ashcroft wasn’t shy about celebrating his 54th anniversary with Mary Ruth this week.  They began their week-long celebration with a delicious Rotary Lunch and 140 of their closest friends!

Prez Allyn gave a power-point presentation on his hopes and wishes for our Rotary club for 2012-2013.   The Board of Directors was introduced as well as the Friendly Fullerton Gnome.  Gnomie will promote Peace thru Service around the world but especially in Fullerton.  He is sure to make many, many, many appearances throughout the coming year.

Howard Minkley introduced our guest speaker today.  Mike Lansford is a former Los Angeles Ram (SF 49er, Oakland Raider, and New York Giant) who achieved great notoriety as a barefoot place kicker.  Mike gave a very entertaining speech about his career and Team-building.  Mike lives in Yorba Linda and is still involved in coaching and football clinics for youngster.   He was able to answer question from the floor and though his presentation was cut short because of our lengthy meeting he seemed to really enjoy being with us today.

Prez Allyn adjourned about 1:40 and by all accounts did a great job!
