Volume 68, Issue 36 Rota-Scribe: Minard Duncan

Another great meeting as Deacon Jay Milam entertained us during social and lunch time. The crowd of Rotarians gave him a well deserved hand!

Prez Chief Pat McKinley called upon Joe Lins to lead us in the Flag Salute. I noticed a few veterans saluting our Flag instead of the hand over the heart. According to the American Legion, the U.S. Congress passed a law that veterans may salute the Flag of our Country without being in uniform.
As usual, Mary Alyce Jeremiah led us in a nice prayer.
With accompaniment by Don Ludwig, Griff Duncan did a great job leading us in singing "When Irish Eyes Are Singing" and "Smile.
Jeff Hutchison handled the Guests and Visiting Rotarians:
Guest Anthony Guinn - Mike Salyards
Guest Steve Grom - Warren Wimer
Guest Nancy Hansen - Ray Hansen
Guest John Link - George Giokaris
Cathy Gach told us about Fullerton High School's musical "Damn Yankees" which opens on Friday, March 20 at 7:30 p.m. and with shows on March 21, 27, and 28 plus Saturday matinees at 1:30 p.m. Admission is $12/general and $8/students, seniors and children. Also, the Fullerton Academy of the Arts Foundation is having their Spring Fund Drive "Get In the Game." All proceeds will go to the Academy of the Arts. You could win a 42" Vizio TV (1080P HD LCD). Tickets for the TV are only $10 each or 3 for $20. See Cathy for this great opportunity!

Program

Ray Hansen introduced Carl Morrison who is a Train Writer and Rider. Carl has several websites. Three of them are Carl@TrainWeb.com, http://moknowsphotos.com/LTT/, and http://moknowsphotos.com. He has traveled several thousands of miles on trains and has a wealth of information to share. Before being a train writer he taught high school for 40 years. He told us about how all three of AMTRAK's Western Routes originate in Chicago, Illinois and go to the states of Washington (one route) and California (two routes). He says that Fullerton is a wonderful place to watch trains. He claims that the Coast Starlight is the best in the West. It has the longest ocean view in America. Beautiful projected photos were shown to us.
The Wringling Brothers Circus has the largest train in the world.
Since trains often run late, he gave us a number to call to find out if a train is on time. It is 1-800-USARAIL.

Closing

President Pat ended the meeting with a reading of a veteran's diary about how glad he was to be an American.
