Volume 68, Issue 33 Rota-Scribe: Bill Schenk

Allyn Lean led the Pledge but not before Prez Pat recognized Dick Daybell with the FPD Mug and Patch for his chairmanship of the Harbor Light cruise event this past December.

Mark McGee gave the invocation and explained the significance of Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent.

Leroy justified his song selection and guided the club through a pretty fair rendition of God Bless America and Smile.  Don Ludwig accompanied on piano.\

Clare McKenna introduced  Rotarians with guest that included: Mike Salyards/Terri Prado (Anthony Guinn), Dick Mathewson (better half Jane), and Carl Camp (Russell Hall).

Visiting Rotarians included Kevin Padilla from Placentia Rotary, and Jim Barden from Brea Rotary.

Cathy Gach was the town crier and made non-Rotary announcements that included a Crittendan fundraiser on March 20th, and the Spring Musical presented by the Fullerton Union High School Academy of the Arts performing Damn Yankees.

Rotary Announcements included reminders that our March 11 meeting we will celebrate St Patrick's Day with Corn Beef and Cabbage and also Irish Coffee provided by Bill McGarvey.

Kevin Padilla and Jim Barden announced the North Orange County New Generations Rotary Club being formed and sponsored by Brea, Placentia, and Fullerton Rotary Clubs. This club is for Youthful Rotarians between the ages of 21 and 40.  The club is continuing to grow and plan projects but as of now does not have enough members to get a charter.

Prez Pat reminded everybody of the opportunity to support the Club by advertising in the concert.  Contact Deborah Sanchez or Theresa Harvey for details.

The Rotary Annual Student Singing Contest

The Program today was a recital from 11 young men and women from Fullerton, and Sunny Hills High Schools that recently won the Rotary singing contest and will advance to the District finals.  I ‘d never heard these songs before and I couldn’t understand the Italian lyrics but I could hear Tony Amato singing along and if he is any judge these kids really will do well at the next level of competition.

Prez Pat thanked the members for staying over as the meeting ran a little late by closing with a very timely quote by Benjamin Franklin.  “Goodnight Mrs. Kalabash......where ever you are”
