Volume 68, Issue 18 Rota-Scribe: Randy McFarland

Last Minute Update: Bob Clark, Jr's father in law, Bob Root passed away this week.

Opening traditions

Chief Pat McKinley has clearly mastered the volume control on our Rotary bell. He has the courtesy to forewarn those at the head table to protect their ears!  Chief Pat opened the meeting by acknowledging our own Leroy Fulton and immediately put him to work leading the pledge and the singing. and then offering the invocation. Mercifully, Chief Pat gave Leroy a break and called Mark Geiss up for the invocation, which he preceded by confirming the “tag team” arrangement he has with Mark McGee. Mark also expressed his disdain for the negative campaign signs we’ve seen against our own Dick Jones, who has done so much for our great city.

Introductions

Pat Hartnett welcomed our guest from the Newport-Irvine Club, JT Warring. He had members introduce their guests: Joyce Capelle-Fritz Czpull and Marilyn Salzman.  Terri Prado-Charlene Hesketh, Jim Williams-Sally Williams.

Announcements

Joyce Capelle read the non-Rotary announcements first. If I gave a full and complete accounting of this, you’d have no reason to attend the meetings and if you did attend the meeting, you’d have no reason to pay attention, so next time,   be sure to attend or listen up!  What I did catch was that

Program

Jim Young introduced Barbara Stone, our personal political pundit back by popular demand to offer her musings about all things related to the upcoming election. Barbara noted that polls show Obama in the lead by all counts although it varies by how much, depending….. The big question is WHO will actually vote. Some prefer to look at how the states vote as this what the Electoral College is based on. CA and NY have Obama in the lead. One bit of hope for the Republicans is that congress may well become Republican-controlled after Obama’s first term as happened during Clinton’s first term. Barbara seemed to be in favor of No on all the propositions.

Closing thought by Albert Einstein: “Two things are infinite… the universe and human stupidity… and I’m not sure about the Universe.”
