Prez Joyce tested her microphone but finally got the clubs attention by clanging her presidents bell enough times to call our meeting to order. Dale Schumacher led the pledge of allegiance before Howard Wood, supported by Bill Peloquin and Randy McFarland; song led the club with God Bless Howard then introduced Maryalyce Jeremiah whose idea it is to instill a new tradition in the Fullerton Rotary Club Chorus. She then “coached” the club in singing a very simple song in the “round” format. After teaching us the song, and rehearsing us in the song, and dividing us into three small groups (each with its own leader) the club attempted to get through this short simple song. The resulting heavenly harmonies and chromatic resonances surprised everyone. (Look out, Empire Chorus!) Coach Jeremiah reminded me a little of Prof. Harold Hill from Howard Wood then introduced Rotarians with guest that included: Mark Geiss who hosted John Braun from McCoy Mills Ford; Jim Vanderburg who was accompanied by wife Willa, and Howard Wood who brought his wife Doris. Today was the District Gov. Bill Peloquin’s visitation and he was accompanied by a host of Rotary dignitaries including his wife Wilma. Also among his entourage were District Governor –elect Lane Calvert, and Assistant District Governor Greg Owen from Long Beach. Announcements Teri Grassi announced the availability of invitation cards to assist members inviting guests to our weekly meeting. Walt Barnes announced that the club has achieved 92% PHF as of this meeting. Members may go to www.rotary.org/foundation to get a better understanding of the good deeds this money achieves. Prez Joyce announced that she will make available sign-up sheets next week for Hurricane Katrina relieve funds. |
RECOGNITIONS Keith Mills played the role of fine master this week and recognized Jim Williams for his wife Sally’s birthday that he plans to celebrate on 9/11 in Bill Peloquin was recognized for his and Wilma’s anniversary. Bill fessed up that the Anniversary Dinner was the free-bee Presidents Dinner for the District!! (That was Baadd - Bill!) Leroy Fulton was also recognized for his and Jeans 54th anniversary. Bill Hite won and lost the opportunity drawing by indeed knowing the question (who is next years District Governor), but not knowing it good enough for Prez Joyce. $10 consolation prize provided by Cameron McCune. Program District Governor Bill Peloquin addressed the club with humor and dedication that gave insight to why he leads such an active life in Rotary even though he is retired. After winding down his surgical practice and prevailing over heart surgery, Bill began to see the possibilities his efforts could afford the world through Rotary. Bill enthusiastically talked about past and current Rotary projects and goals from Polio Plus to Preventable Blindness. Gov. Bill is asking our club, along with the district to establish Preventable Blindness Fund. $25 is all it takes for cataract surgery in for the indigent in |
