Prez Joyce began the meeting after most members had served themselves, enjoyed their lunch and fellowship. Howard Wood led the club in singing assisted by Randy McFarland, Leroy Fulton and Bob Savage, accompanied by the arrhythmic tinklings of Mike Oates on the piano. Don Bankhead introduced visitors, which included John Kacarab (Keith Mills), Ken Benjamin (Randy McFarland), and Visiting Rotarians; Bret Gerdes (Irvine Spectrum), past District Governor Price Shapiro (Newport Sunrise), and Andy Ersek (Orange North).
Announcements Dick Daybell would like all members to sign up for fellowship luncheons, which are now being arranged. He reports that he would like to arrange one round of lunches in the fall and another in the spring. Rick Crane announced sign-ups for the Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament on Sept. 9. Terri Grassi announced the Membership development
meeting is the first Thursday of every month and that all members
are invited to attend and contribute. Call Teri
for details. |
Terri Grassi also handled the fines and
recognitions this week. She employed a Blackjack theme and
invited several members into the game that she dealt. Dick Glaus had the winning opportunity ticket but did not know how many Interact clubs there are on earth so he only walked off with the $10 consolation prize. Prez Joyce polled the club on how high the standards were for reigning presidents jokes of the week. It was hotly debated but finally agreed that Mike Oates set the standard so low that not even Allen Greenspan can get under it. Prez Joyce doesn’t have to worry about coming in under the bar. However she might set a record for longest jokes, if she’s not careful. After Joyce offended every political party, most European countries and a lot of Cows, she introduced Kathy Allred-Blake to speak on the Rotary International Convention that she recently attended, as well as Group Study Exchange. If you ever want to know about Group study exchange there are several articles devoted to GSE in the current issue of the 5320n news. President Joyce closing thought was: “A Good Heart is Better than a Good Head”
