Prez Bob called the meeting to order at 12:10 and Don Bankhead led the pledge of allegiance, followed by the Thought for the Day, provided by Bill Heaton.
Bill Hite introduced Visiting Rotarian Tony Florentine of Fullerton-South, who announced his clubs youth exchange with Japan this July. If you have 14 to 17 year-old who might be interested if going to Japan this summer, please call Tony (he’s in the book). Participants are asked to participate as host’s when the Japanese send their children here. Other Rotarians with guests included Dick Daybell who hosted Tom Dalton; Michael La whose guest was Shine Kim, and David Schoen who brought Russian student Anton Gu. Young Mr. Gu is an Operation Impact Student at Eastside Christian School. He made a brief presentation of his Capstone project in hometown of building a modern playground and is trying to raise $5000 to $8000 for this purpose. Operation Impact is a program that teaches young people to make a positive impact on their community. If you would like to donate to Anton’s project contact David Shoen. Other announcements included: Minard Duncan: Faces of Fullerton Event on Saturday May 15 from 10 AM to 3 PM in the Fullerton Plaza. The Fullerton Collaborative puts on this event to celebrate the diversity of Friends and neighbors of the community. Bill Mathy announced long awaited Demotion Night festivities to he held June 29th at the Sheridan 4-Points. Wally Bartelt reminded the club about the 100% Paul Harris fellowship drive. Jim McKamy announced that he is trying to form a Texas Hold’em card team to play at the district tournament to be held on Thursday, May 19th at the Yorba Linda Community Center. Mike Oates announced that the June 1st Wednesday Rotary meeting will be held at Grace Ministries International (at the old Hunt-Wesson facility). |
Mike Normura, Damon Dragos, and Len Renick have resigned from the club. Fine master Dick Daybell recognized Jim Blake who accepted an apology for a recent disrespect paid to his Tulane University’s Baseball team. Tom Meyer attempt to console him with a homily about nearly being #1 a lesson learned by the fighting Illinois teams. And both members were reminded by Rick Crane, et al, that it doesn’t matter who is number one. It only matters who will be number one at seasons end! Dan Kiernan was recognized on the eve of his 68th birthday. Les McCarthy one the raffle but not the prize. She didn’t know Mackintosh computer was introduce at the 1984 Super Bowl and not the PC. Our program today detailed the three charity program sponsored by Fullerton Rotary and were described by their chairman: Bob Sattler (Fullerton Rotary Foundation), Buck Catlin (Community Investment Awards) and Tom Meyer (Fullerton Rotary Charity Concert) Each chairman described how this programs work, how the funds are acquired and how and to whom they are dispersed. Buck took the opportunity to distribute several Community Investment awards at today’s luncheon.
