A Kodak Moment (in Digital) Prez Bill called us to some semblance of order and indicated that the triennial Club Photo would be made prior to the opening of the Chow Line. Janie Noppe led us the still constitutional Pledge of Allegiance (thank goodness!) Griff and veritable chorale led those present in God Bless America and Smile Past President Chuck Munson conveyed a thought garnered from a bumper sticker that each day is present, and no tomorrow is guaranteed. So, we should grab a chance to do good today. VIPs Galore Dan Kiernan introduced visiting Rotarians * Walt Barnes Guest * Bill Klinghofer (Don Bankhead) PDG Young, another first and finest: DG Starke presented Jim Young PDG with a charter plaque for the Paul Harris Society of RID 5320 with suitable and deserved praise. Jim can now be appropriately addressed as James D. Young , PhD, PDG, PHF, PHS, USNR, etc.
DGE Bill Peloquin emptied his suitcase while announcing that the Fullerton Rotary Club had won the following RID 5320 awards: * Governors Citation, Club Service 3rd place and Prez Bill (soon to be past president!!!) thanked Randy McFarland, the Board of Directors and a sturdy group who put the packets together. Only One Announcement Phil Silverman reminded us of the long awaited and much anticipated demotion of Bill Mathy as President of the Award winning Rotary Club of Fullerton. In recognition of getting rid of Bill, Phil was made Rotarian of the Week, becoming the last gainfully employed person in OC to receive a clock from Bill Mathey. JUNE 30 at Four Points (Raymond and the Riverside or Artesia Freeway or the 91) |
Recognitions and Raffle Nate Kvetny recognized the poor hearing of some and changed the format a bit as he "recognized" monetarily and otherwise the following. * DGE Peloquin- 66th B'day Jim Blackburn bought winning raffle ticket, but did not know which was the first Father's Day (June 1906) He thought it was invented by Hallmark Cards or the Old Spice folks.
A Different Way to do Sewers Dan Kiernan introduced Doug Peterson of Insituform Technologies Inc,, who told us about a new ( 30 year old) process for rehabilitating pipelines. In North America, there are 2 million miles of sewer line, e.g. OC treats over 300 million gallons of water per day. So Doug's firm and its competitors are unlikely to run out of potential customers. Much of the pipeline infrastructures need "rehabing", and digging up the pipe is a costly mess. A product provided by Doug's company can insert a "sock" inside existing pipeline, which when heated sets up and provides a smooth and unbroken liner for the sewer line or its tributaries at a cost that compares favorably with the other options. This was good info to know as we consider the delights of Prez Bill's flushing from office. Although some of the photos in the Power Point looked like my last colonoscopy. We get letters Buck Catlin reported that we received lovely thank you note from the "Fullerton Friends of Music" thanking the Rotary Club of Fullerton for the generous donation of $500. This will help their "Keep music in the Schools" scholarship program to educate deserving young music students in our Fullerton community.
