Volume 77 Issue 44   Rota-Scribe: Randy McFarland

Past President Dan Ouweleen stepped up to run today’s meeting as President Marty Burbank was on special assignment. Zoot Velasco led us in the Pledge to our flag and Ken Kaisch led us in singing “Smile”.

Past President Jim Williams stepped up to the microphone and acknowledged spousal birthday of Joe Lins’ wife, Suzi Lins’. The 22nd Rotary anniversary of Bill Mathy was acknowledged.

Jim then acknowledged those who assisted with our fun and successful “Rotary Rocks” event we enjoyed last Friday evening.

Joe Arnold served as event chair with a great lineup of committee members:

Judy Atwell, Cathy Gach, Joe Lins, Suzy Lins, Theresa Harvey, Dan Ouweleen, Susan Ouweleen, Jim Williams and Sally Williams. Auction Volunteers included Miko Krisvoy and Karen Zie. Rotaract Club members were of great assistance as they have been at many of our events like “Top 100” and “Love Fullerton”. Rotaract members helping at Rotary Rocks included Critina Acedo, Shawn Chae, Kekin Chang, Genesis Gallo, Rabia Kamal, Rob Ouweleen, Keith Payumo, and Risako Suzuki. Thank you to all !!

Rick Crane, is chair of our Community Investment Awards committee and was Master of Ceremony for today’s annual distribution of our Community Investment Awards. These awards are intended to help support education, culture, health and athletics in our community. Funding for these grants are accumulated though donations from our club members.

We again teamed up with the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF), which for the past several years, has asked our club to identify local groups in need of funding. This year we distributed $25,000 to local community groups. Rick introduced Carol Ferguson and Tiffany McCain from the OCCF who mentioned that they have programs that helps veterans, immigrants and non-profit organizations. Subsequent to founding of OCCF, $510,000 has been distributed!
